Empowering Everyone to Achieve

Performing Arts

Performing Arts Faculty

The Performing Arts Faculty is a dynamic, energetic and highly creative department at Sir William Ramsay School. All members of the Performing Arts Faculty are fully dedicated to providing excellent teaching and learning for our students both in and outside of the classroom. As a faculty we have access to a Drama Theatre, a second studio space, two music classrooms (1 equipped with Mac computers and the other equipped with Keyboards), two music practice rooms, a Media Studies room (equipped with Mac computers and PCs) and a large hall. During the past couple of years the department has benefited from significant investment allowing us to own and use a full range of equipment. This equipment has been used to enrich the experience of our students both in and out of the classroom.

As well as having numerous clubs and activities, the faculty also runs and takes part in numerous events. In the academic year 2018/19 we took part in the Shakespeare Schools Festival, ran both Christmas and summer concerts named ‘Starry Starry Night’ and ‘Sounds of Summer’ as well as our annual School Musical.  Our most recent musicals have been; School of Rock, Little Shop of Horrors and Bugsy Malone.  In addition to this the Performing Arts Faculty arranges trips to the Theatre and professional workshops in both Drama and Music. The Performing Arts Faculty also has a full range of peripatetic lessons ranging from drums, guitar, keyboard and voice.

For the academic year 2020/2021, the department is hoping to develop a three a-level equivalent course for students within the sixth form.
