Geography

Our intent in Geography is that students develop a love and understanding of the natural and human worlds.  This encourages students to develop a greater understanding of their world and their place in it, they will develop a range of investigation, problem-solving and map skills.  We hope to inspire students with a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.  Our department is inclusive; we cater for all ability ranges including through the use of homework takeaways where students can pick tasks relevant to their ability.

The school has a view that students should be raised above the ordinary by developing and delivering lifelong learning which transforms lives. It encourages compassion and respect as well as diversity and inclusivity.

Geography achieves this by inspiring in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives developing on the school’s theme of lifelong learning.  Our intent in Geography is that students develop a love and understanding of the natural and human worlds that takes them beyond their everyday experiences.

This encourages students to develop a greater understanding of their world and their place in it, they will develop a range of investigation, problem-solving and map skills.  We also celebrate and learn about differences in the world around us and encourage our students to be empathetic global citizens who challenge prejudice.

With this in mind we prioritise themes such as development and sustainability, allowing students to study their local area and then build on this to explore the wider world.  We believe that these themes will help promote social justice.
