History

Our intent in History is that through the study of historical events students will appreciate and gain a better understanding of the world around us through the complexity of human experiences, to evaluate evidence in multiple forms, and to offer insightful interpretations with clarity of expression.  This curriculum will develop and extend pupils’ knowledge and understanding of specified key events, periods and societies in local, British, and wider world history; and of the wide diversity of human experience.  We aim to enable students to master the knowledge and skills for success in future outside school.  The curriculum is broadly chronological so that students get a good sense of History through time.  There are 4 key skills that every Historian needs and as a department we aim to develop: analysis, source evaluation and interpretation as a foundation for studying history.

In 2020/21 SWR was awarded the Beacon School status for Holocaust education.  This means that as a school we have shown a commitment to rooting out racism, hate and discrimination in all forms and have shown excellence in the standard of our history holocaust education programme.
